Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) – Mairches Medical Practice (Galashiels & Hawick)
Mairches Medical Practice is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our well-established, forward-thinking, and dynamic practice.
We are an experienced, cohesive team of GPs, ANPs, practice nurses, and a dedicated administrative and management team. We serve approximately 11,000 patients across two sites in Scottish Borders: Galashiels and Hawick.
The Practice is a welcoming and supportive place to work. We place much emphasis on a healthy work/life balance, and have daily meetings and opportunities for debriefs, case discussions, and reflections. We also have regular educational meetings for continued professional development. We also have regular social events! We are looking for our new team member to contribute to the development of the Practice and bring new ideas, innovations and enthusiasm.
The ideal candidate will possess advanced clinical skills and a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care. As an ANP, you will play a vital role in diagnosing and treating patients, promoting health education, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
The position is available immediately, but we have flexibility for the right candidate.

Job Specifics
- Duty and Non-Duty Days:
- Duty Days – 10x On the Day Appointments, Urgent Surgery and House Visits.
- Non-Duty Days – 15x On the Day Appointments.
- Support of extensive and developed nursing team – ANPs, Minor Ailments Nurse, Specialist Respiratory Nurse, Practice Nurses, HCAs.
- Wider health care team of on-site physiotherapist and pharmacist as well as local dedicated primary care mental health team (RENEW).
- Supported Duty Team working (ANP and GP), with twice daily clinical/educational huddles.
- We are a Teaching Practice with regular Medical Student and junior doctor rotations.
Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, including sexual health.
- Apply clinical reasoning to develop appropriate treatment plans to manage undifferentiated and undiagnosed
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with established
- Order and interpret investigations such as blood tests.
- Refer to specialist departments in Secondary Care where appropriate
- Provide health education and counselling to patients and their families on disease prevention and health
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Stay updated on the latest medical practices, guidelines, and advancements in healthcare.
- Participate in clinical supervision mentorship.
- Contribute to professional development activities within the team.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement projects.
